4 Marketing Tricks and 1 Treat for Your Local Small Business

zettamobile_halloweenHalloween is approaching and who says you need to be a kid for Tricks and Treats?

Below are 4 Marketing Tricks to help for your local small business reach more customers and 1 Treat to help you get started.

Trick #1:  It is FREE to Claim & Manage Your Business Listings on Popular Sites
If you have a local business, you are probably already listed on sites like Yelp, Foursquare, Yahoo!, and Citysearch.  If you haven’t already, you can “claim” or “unlock” that business if you own it, with a step for verification.

Having current information helps your business get found, and lets you control the information, messaging, and responding to customers.  You do not need to spend additional money on advertising to claim your business.

Like a Zombie, this is a no-brainer!

Trick #2Your Expertise Can Get Your Business Free PR
Getting the right exposure for your business is always good, especially when it is part of a positive news article that many people will see.

“Help A Reporter Out” (HARO) is a source for news people to find sources for their stories quickly.  Every day, new inquiries are posted from reporters looking for experts to help with their stories, and many of them revolve around Small Business.

The service is free and the exposure could be invaluable to your business. All you need to do is sign up at HARO and you will receive three daily e-mails with requests for sources in specific areas of interest (i.e., Tech, Business & Finance, Travel, etc.).  If you see a story that fits your expertise, you may respond directly to the reporter.

This is a Monster opportunity for you and your business!

Trick #3You Can Advertise Your Business on Mobile Devices Yourself
Want a scare? It is now critical for your local business to be on mobile.

According to comScore, Nielsen and StatCounter, smartphones have a U.S. market penetration of 72%. This is expected to grow to 90% by 2016. More importantly, 35% of aggregate web traffic in the U.S. comes from mobile phones and tablets.

But you don’t need the statistics; you can see for yourself just how many of your customers rely on their mobile device every day.

There are companies that will automatically create a mobile ad for your business and target it only to the people that are around your business location.  Sometimes, you can even include additional demographic targeting to hit a specific audience.

Google AdWords: Let’s you create mobile search text ads and identify key search terms when you want the ad to appear.  Some work is needed in the set-up to be sure you select “Mobile Only” and the location for reaching people.

ZettaMobile: Let’s you create personalized mobile display ads that run within popular mobile apps (Weather, News, Entertainment, Games, etc.) on mobile devices around your business (from 1 mile to 25 miles)

Witch service is best? A good local strategy would be to employ both. That way you reach people actively looking (search) and others that you can tempt (display).

Trick #4Your Current Site Can Be A Mobile Site, Automatically
There are companies that can take your existing site content and create a good looking mobile responsive site, making it easier for people on mobile devices to see your content and take action. Or, you can create a new version from scratch with easy templates.

This is important because mobile phone users are expecting to see content that fits their screen and nobody likes to see the full web version with tiny text and hard to hit links.

Here are a couple sites that do it well:

DuDa Mobile: Duda is a leading DIY website builder for web professionals and small businesses via its products; DudaMobile, a mobile-only site builder; DudaOne, a responsive website builder and DudaPro, which enables entrepreneurs, designers and agencies of all sizes to create personalized and dynamic web presence solutions without the need to invest in hours of costly development time

bMobilized: the pioneer in technologies that dramatically reduce the cost, time, and skill required to create and maintain state-of-the-art mobile websites. The company’s patented technology instantly creates mobile websites from desktop websites, and automatically inserts mobile-specific features like maps and click-to-call capabilities

Don’t be Spooked! Creating a mobile version of your site can be done without needing to hire an agency or professional.

And now, 1 TREAT:
