Mobile Advertising Tricks & Treats for Local Small Business

zettamobile_halloweenWith Halloween upon us, many local small businesses will show their community spirit through decorations, and some will be giving candy out to costumed children that come into their stores.

Wouldn’t it be great if all it took was a little candy to get more customers, as well? Today, 64% of American adults have a smartphone (Source: Pew Research Institute) and a great way to reach more local customers around your business is through mobile advertising.

In the spirit of Halloween, here are a few tricks for a successful mobile advertising campaign:

Trick #1: Make your ads location-based
Utilize geo-targeting capabilities to reach the consumers around your business. Target only the consumers nearby that can be directed to your business, or within the service area.
Trick #2: Call out the “local” in your ads
Calling out that your business is local is a great way to differentiate your business from National Advertisers. Consumers respond better to ads when they know the business is a local business. Be sure that your city, address, or phone number appears in the ad.

Trick #3: Create a Call-To-Action in your mobile ad
Give consumers a reason to respond to your ad. Be specific in the action you want the consumer to take. Think about specials you offer, or a benefit the consumer will receive by taking that action. Discount coupons (e.g., 20 percent-off coupons for nearby mobile users), buy-one-get-one promotions and free items are great incentives.

Trick #4: Use a good visual image in your ad
Make sure the image you are using in your ad is clear and effectively attracts the user’s attention. Your logo may be good if many people in your city know it, but sometimes an image of what you offer can attract attention better (example: flowers for a florist, a smile for a dentist, a cupcake for a bakery, etc.)

Trick #5: Know the best time to reach your consumers
When creating your mobile ad campaign, think about the best days of the week and the best times of the day to reach consumers. You can adapt your campaign so that you only reach the consumers during the best times to call your business, visit your store, or take advantage of your special offer.
